MADISON CO., Ill. (ECWd) –
A reader sent us a photo and video depicting the Village of Maryville’s electronic sign advertising for the passage of a school district referendum by asking people to vote “YES” on the ballot initiative.

This type of activity is considered Prohibited Political Activity and violates Section 5-15 of the State Officials and Employees Ethics Act (which also applies to local officials and employees) and needs to be put in check.
Who in their right mind would think it is OK to use taxpayer funds to advertise in favor of a tax referendum?
