Douglas Co. (ECWd) –
We first exposed the Murdock Township Highway Commissioner holding an office in a township in which he did not reside in August of 2025 in this article.
We then published this article in June of 2026, pointing out that the Douglas County State’s Attorney, Robert Kosic, has still not made a charging decision shortly after the first of the year, as he indicated he would.
Considering this issue has gone on for over 14 months with no charging decision, I once again requested the investigation files on the matter so that the public could be fully informed as to the findings by law enforcement.
That request was denied by the State’s Attorney, who once again has set a timeline for a charging decision on the matter but interestingly inserted a way out of meeting that timeline in his response.
“In response to your follow up request regarding the Murdock Township Commissioner, our response would be the same as the prior, which is that disclosure would constitute records in the possession of any law enforcement agency for law enforcement purposes and disclosure would interfere with pending or actually reasonably contemplated law enforcement proceedings conducted by any law enforcement agency that is the recipient of the request.
“This matter has been pending for a longer period of time, and I would like to be able to complete our charging decision as soon as possible. Thus, I can advise you that, barring any new developments, I will convey to you my office’s charging decision by the end of this month.” (emphasis added)
Does anyone wish to place any bets on whether a charging decision is going to be made by the end of the month? My bet is there will be new developments that result in no decision and a continued hold on releasing the investigation findings. While I hope I am wrong, history in this state, when it comes to State’s Attorneys holding local officials accountable, is not favorable.
We will update this article at the end of the month, assuming nothing changes by then.
