“Mattoon CUSD #2 is aware of a recent social media comment made by a district employee that has caused significant concern within our community. We hold our staff to the highest standards of professional conduct, and the district does not condone this behavior. The actions of this employee are entirely inconsistent with the values, standards, and expectations of the Mattoon School District.
Upon becoming aware of this matter on Friday, September 4th, the district took immediate action. The employee was placed on administrative leave. Due to laws regarding personnel matters, the district cannot provide further details regarding this individual. We remain committed to ensuring a safe and professional environment for all students and staff.“

The employee is/was Rebecca Coon the Payroll and Insurance Secretary.

what is wrong with people !this little girl was just posting and proud of what she achieve with her dad ! nothing wrong with that maybe the school employee is against taking out wild life but she shouldn’t have said die to this girl know matter the outcome of this employee it be hard to find another job at least in that county !
And maybe…a referral for a mental health eval.

Exactly what I wondered. Nothing to think about. She is a school employee publicly wishing a child would die. She Gone!!! Needs to be in prison!
This so sad. They are held to a higher standard and when that is broken then the ties should be broken too. She apparently needs serious help and doesn’t need to be around children or advising them in any way.
Investigation first. Always. Hauling off and firing a public employee without an investigation is a good way to get sued, and then all of the keyboard warriors would be screaming about wasting government money defending a lawsuit. The district did what the rules called for: the employee is suspended pending an investigation. If the investigation shows that she did what it seems like she did, then fire her.
In prison for what crime? Saying stupid $41+ online is not a crime or our else prisons would be unable to hold all of the 200 million felons that law would create . She did not say she would do anything to the kid, so it really isn’t a threat. It’s just incredibly stupid and sick.
