Dr. Chris Boehm Pleads The Fifth In Electoral Board Hearing; Withdraws Objection –

By John Kraft & Kirk Allen

On December 18, 2023

Shelby Co., Ill. (ECWd) –

The Shelby County Electoral Board held its petition objection hearing this afternoon.

After placing all the parties under oath, they were given a chance to submit any evidence or testimony they desired to submit.

The board asked questions of the parties.

At approximately 13:51 in the below video, Boehm begins his testimony. When asked questions about the objection petition(s), he turned in to the clerk and at the time he turned them in, he admitted to not having the extra copies needed for filing his objection, see 19:20 point in the video. At about the 19:35 point in the video, and on the third question, Boehm refused to answer the question, and “plead the fifth” to avoid self-incrimination.

His refusal to answer the questions asked raised the following questions we have of Boehm:

  • if you only had one copy when you went to turn the objection in, where did you get the other copies?
  • how did an insufficient page total end up with sufficient pages in the official filing in the Clerks office?
  • did you use a county copying machine to make more copies of your election petition objection?
  • did a county employee assist in making copies for you or did one let you use a county copying machine?
  • did county taxpayers supply the paper, toner, and electricity you used for the extra copies?
  • do you know the definition of electioneering and misappropriation of public property?

Boehm withdrew his petition objection as the board was about to issue written decisions.

The objections of Firnhaber and Pogue against Maulding were sustained and Mauling’s name will not appear on the ballot. We must note that Maulding took full ownership of the errors in her filing and did not create excuses as we have seen some do in the past.
