Federal Grand Jury Issued Subpoena To Paris School District 95 –

Peoria, Ill. (ECWd) –

A Federal Grand Jury issued a 19-page subpoena to the Paris Union School District 95 on June 12, 2023, with a response demand by June 21, 2023.

The subpoena, provided under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act by the school district was heavily redacted, and we have appealed those redactions to the school. We are also seeking legal advice to pursue these records in the court system should our appeal to the school remain unfruitful.

We believe the Better Government Association vs Blagojevich case determined federal grand jury subpoenas are public records subject to release under the Illinois FOIA.

From the unredacted items demanded:

• School District Employee Handbooks from 2019 through 2023
• School District Policies and Procedures for employees, contractors, subcontractors, and/or grant partners and grant program co-applicants

All other items were redacted.
