Piatt County Board Member Randy Shumard reimbursed county for overpayments

Piatt Co. (ECWd) –

We have recently written about Piatt County’s illegal and invalid compensation setting ordinance for county board members and the board chairman (here, here, and here).

After we attended the March 2020 county board meeting, board member Randy Shumard calculated up what he believed to be payments made to him for more than one meeting per day, and paid it back to the county.

Shumard paid back $940.00 in overpayments (see receipt here) received by him for meetings attended. In our article on overpayments, we noted that Shumard was the board member who did not list meetings separately, which made it hard for us to determine how many meetings he was actually paid for.

We applaud his reimbursement. This should have set the example for other board members to follow…but sadly that is not the case, which we will be explained in a future article.
