Bloomington, IL. (ECWd) –
After several attempts at gaining access to certain public records of the Bloomington Police Department, it appears our only course of action was to file a lawsuit in McLean County Circuit Court under the Freedom of Information Act.
The records at issue are complaints and investigative records of a complaint filed against Bloomington Police Officer Curtis Squires.
Squires is currently working for the McLean County Court Services in the Courthouse.
What we know now is that Squires was under investigation after a complaint was filed by the assistant police chief. He “resigned” after being stripped of police powers and prior to completion of the investigation and to any adjudication of the complaint – which means that the complaint and all of the investigative records are open to public inspection – but Bloomington thinks otherwise.
