A White County correctional officer has been suspended without pay after being caught having “inappropriate conduct” with a female inmate in her cell. The officer has not been identified. Sheriff Jordan Weiss has asked the Illinois State Police to conduct an independent investigation of the incident.

Sheriff Weiss stated that early Tuesday morning, the jail administrator conducted a routine review of security cameras and spotted the officer having inappropriate conduct with a female inmate the night before.

The officer, a full-time employee with three years on the job, was immediately placed on leave without pay pending the outcome of the investigation. “The inmates in our jail are under our care,” Sheriff Weiss said. “We take their well-being and safety as our highest priority.”
The sheriff added he would not make any further comments about the case, referring inquiries to State Police investigators.
