Oswego, Ill. (ECWd) –

An off-duty Bolingbrook Police Officer was involved in an apparent road-rage incident while driving through Oswego, Illinois this past February.

During the incident, and according to the police reports, Bolingbrook Police Officer Sal Davi, Davi was involved in a traffic incident in Oswego while off duty, where a Plainfield resident accused Davi of pointing a firearm at him, which lead to him crossing multiple lanes of traffic to confront Davi. The Plainfield resident (and Davi) called 9-1-1.

Davi admits to “retrieving” his firearm, but not to pointing it at the other driver.

When Oswego PD showed up, Davi was ordered out of his private vehicle and placed in handcuffs. During this incident, Davi continued berating the Oswego police, repeatedly screaming at the other driver and using profane language.

It was reported to us, still unconfirmed and not listed in the unredacted portion of the police reports, that Davi used the “N-word” when talking about the Plainfield resident – we were tipped off that this would be on the bodycam video, which, incidentally, both the Oswego and Bolingbrook Police Departments refused to provide. We will publish the FOIA lawsuit after it is filed probably next week.

Davi was given a Letter of Reprimand, detailing this incident, and we do not believe it went through an official adjudication board, which means, according to the Freedom of Information Act, all investigative materials, including the bodycam videos, are subject to release under the FOIA Act.

We cannot find where Officer Davi was charged with any crime related to this incident and will update this once we win the FOIA lawsuit for the bodycam footage and other things.
