SPRINGFIELD, IL. (ECWd) –
During its December 21, 2021, Board of Commissioners meeting, the Springfield Airport Authority voted to commence with litigation against the City of Springfield for the city’s non-compliance with airport revenue diversion laws and regulations – mainly the sales tax on aircraft fuel sold at the airport.
We have been researching this issue for several months and have received several responses to our requests for public records from the city and will publish our findings prior to the end of this year.

Springfield Airport Authority Board of Commissioners Votes to Commence Litigation Against City of Springfield
Springfield, Illinois ……. A resolution to commence litigation against the City of Springfield was passed by the Springfield Airport Authority Board of Commissioners at its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, December 21, 2021. The complaint involves the City of Springfield’s non-compliance with airport revenue diversion laws and regulations. The measure passed with commissioners Shea, Delheimer, Barghouti-Hardwick and Vala voting in favor of the resolution, Commissioners Franke and Haley voting against and Commissioner Houston voting present. The Authority will bring on board special counsel to assist with the proceedings.
The Springfield Airport Authority Board of Commissioners is made up of seven members with the four appointments of Houston, Shea, Franke and Haley by the Mayor and the three appointments of Barghouti-Hardwick, Delheimer and Vala by the Sangamon County Board.
