Chicago, Ill. (ECWd) –
Former Dolton Administrator Keith Freeman’s change of plea on his federal bankruptcy fraud charges postponed until March 4, 2026. This is the fourth or fifth time it has been postponed – which makes us think “other things” may be in the works.
From the docket:
MINUTE entry before the Honorable John F. Kness as to Keith Douglas Freeman: In-person status hearing held on 1/14/2026. Defendant, who is not in custody, was present with retained counsel. The parties reported that additional time is needed to prepare for a change of plea hearing. Accordingly, an in-person change of plea hearing is set for 3/4/2026 at 10:30 AM. If the change of plea does not go forward, the Court will set a trial date at the 3/4/2026 hearing. The Government will submit a draft of the plea agreement to Judge Kness at [email protected] by 3/1/2026. Time is excluded without objection from 1/14/2026 through and including 3/4/2026 under 18 U.S.C. 3161(h)(7) to serve the ends of justice. Excluding time will allow the parties the reasonable time necessary to finalize plea negotiations. Such delay outweighs the interests of the public and the Defendants in a speedy trial. Mailed notice. (exr, ) (Entered: 01/14/2026)
