No Money Missing From Paris School District 95 –

By John Kraft & Kirk Allen

On August 5, 2025

Paris, Ill. (ECWd) –

Contrary to previously published reports of somewhere around $750,000 of property tax funds not received by Paris School District 95, there are no funds not received that should have been received.

The alleged discrepancy consisted of a combination of the tax abatements (that didn’t get turned in) and taxes uncollected. Edgar County has previously only sent “estimated” numbers to the county taxing bodies, and not a statement of the “actual” numbers received by the county tax collector.

In reviewing this issue with a CPA, the school district was using the wrong numbers to calculate how they came up with the alleged shortfall. They were looking at the full amount of the levy and not the net effect the abatements were going to do.

This is the reason we always have the applicable public records in our hands prior to publishing an article. We could have followed local media and reported on it, but the records did not fully support what was being reported.

Local Shelby County anonymous propagandists could learn a thing or two by not jumping to unfounded assertions on why we do or do not write about certain things.
