CCS Project in Indiana set to impact land use rights of residents in Edgar County –

Edgar Co., Ill. (ECWd) –

There is a Carbon Capture and Storage (“CCS”) project proposed to be located just off the (Edgar County) Illinois-Indiana state line. Landowners on the Illinois side of the border need to know that their land use rights could be impacted by the plume/pressure front of the Wabash Valley Resources pilot CCS project in Indiana.

Wabash Valley Resources intends to inject into two wells, both of which are just a couple of miles from the Illinois border. We doubt that either Wabash Valley Resources or the state of Indiana have been in contact with the residents of Edgar County or the Illinois government/DNR about this issue.

There is an Indiana DNR hearing about this issue and Indiana’s proposed rules on carbon sequestration on July 11th. Anyone is welcome to come and voice their concerns or they can join online from the Indiana DNR website. Comments can also be submitted via the same website (see link- it is toward the bottom of the page) https://www.in.gov/nrc/rules/rulemaking-docket/

This project’s name is Carbon Sequestration Projects LSA #25-162

Advanced Biofuels has published an article on this, calling it “the largest carbon sequestration project in the United States to date, and will create the world’s first ammonia produced with near zero carbon footprint.”

The United States Department of Energy also has information available (here).
