South Holland, Ill. (ECWd) –
After the April 1, 2025, election, Thornton Township will have a new Township Supervisor and new Township Trustees. State Senator Napoleon Harris and his slate of candidates won the township election.
We suggest one of the first items to tackle should be a comprehensive forensic audit of all township finances since Henyard’s midnight appointment to the position of supervisor. The public has a right to know how every penny of their money was spent, anything short of that is a diservice to the residents of Thornton Township.
Additionally, they should put all finances online for the public to see what this new administration is doing.
Other things they should consider is obtaining a court’s decision on the validity of the elected official compensation ordinance currently in effect. Previously, Henyard managed to pass an unlawful ordinance setting compensation of elected officials effective after this 2025 election, which was later additionally deemed illegal with the enactment of new state legislation and by the current board rescinding it. But that did not fix the previously enacted unlawful compensation setting ordinance, which needs to be fixed ASAP.
