DeWitt County – Trouble Brewing?

By Kirk Allen & John Kraft

DeWitt Co. (ECWd) –

Several months ago we began receiving tips regarding purchases being made in Dewitt County government and a school district with a company named CDS Office Technologies.  The concern raised was that the DeWitt County Board Chairman Dan Matthews is the VP of Sales for the company according to his LinkedIn page.  Matthews is also the President of the CUSD #15 Board of Education.

According to the Statement of Economic Interests filed by Chairman Matthews, there is no disclosure of CDS Office Technologies.

A request for invoices to DeWitt County from CDS Office Technologies resulted in a substantial number of invoices.

Invoices in the Sheriff’s Office indicate over $225,000.00 has been billed by CDS Office Technologies since 2022 and up to August of 2023 when we submitted our FOIA.

We are awaiting records from the School District and will provide that information in a separate article once we receive them.

While we do not know what financial ties these sales might have to Chairman Matthews directly, if any, we did reach out to him for comment and have not received a response at the time of publication.

We also reached out to the DeWtitt County State’s Attorney for comment as we understand that a Special Prosecutor is allegedly being requested to handle this matter.

Stay tuned for further updates.

I’m sure the sheriff’s department could use the cameras, docking stations, tough book MDCs. etc., etc…but the FIRST thing that jumped out at me – beyond the possible connection to the county board chairman – was: COVID RELIEF FUNDS.

If this turns out to be a boondoggle, I’ll say again…”Yep, another government Wuhan program run amuck!”

Were any of the purchases made using a CMS Master Contract? IF so, that would mitigate “conflict of interest” issues. Depending upon the terms of the Master Contract, CMS would have determined CDS would be either “low bid” or “best value” … .
