Calumet City, IL. (ECWd) –
Dolton School District 149 has published an agenda for an “emergency” meeting tonight at 6 p.m. and published it less than 48 hours prior to an alleged Emergency School Board meeting.
It is also a Zoom-only meeting since they are apparently seeking ways to keep the public from becoming involved in “their” meetings. There is no longer a health emergency necessitating holding meetings electronically, they simply don’t want the public informed.
While there are certainly provisions for holding emergency meetings and holding them with less than 48 hours’ notice, there must be a “bona fide” emergency requiring such an emergency meeting.
In this case, there is no bona fide emergency due to a vacancy on the board of education. A vacancy does not constitute an “emergency” especially since it is through the actions and fault of the board itself which created such an alleged vacancy.
