Benton, IL. (ECWd) –

On August 29, 2022, Donald Storey, former Illinois Department of Transportation (“IDOT”) employee, and current elected Public Health and Safety Commissioner for the City of Benton, Illinois, was charged with a Class B Misdemeanor of carrying a concealed firearm in a government building.

This is Franklin County, IL. case number 2022CM262. Storey’s first appearance is set for October 11 at 9:00 a.m.

We previously reported (here and here) of Storey’s alleged shooting of his firearm during a workplace prank that obviously didn’t go as planned.

There has been no word on any punishment of the alleged workplace pranksters by IDOT or anyone else.

The incident happened at IDOT’s West City building and was referred to the Illinois State Police for investigation, which is obviously completed now that charges have been filed.

The Edgar County Watchdogs are currently in a FOIA lawsuit in Cook County against IDOT for their alleged violations of the Freedom of Information Act when responding for information requested related to this firearms incident.

We had previously written about Don Storey in a 2019 incident where Storey was locked out of city hall by the city zoning officer (here)

**these are merely charges, and all people are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law**
