Cook County Court Reinstated Three Supreme Court Candidates to Ballot –

Cook County, IL. (ECWd) –

A Cook County Circuit Court Judge reinstated three Supreme Court Candidates yesterday after a Hearing on the state electoral board’s decision to remove them from the ballot.

Reinstated Supreme Court candidacies were: Susan F. Hutchinson, Mark C. Curran, Jr., and Nancy Rodkin Rotering.

This appeared to be a dispute between the language of the election code requiring 500 signatures, and the language of the Candidate’s Guide published by the State Board of Elections which only stated a requirement of 334 signatures.

The Court interpreted the Candidate Guide as a statutory interpretation by the State Board of Elections and that it was a reasonable interpretation and persuasive.

  • The Court adopts the reasoning of the Candidates and the Candidate’s Guide with respect to the interpretation of 10 ILCS 5/7-10(h) and is bound by the state precedent favoring ballot access. The names of candidates Susan F. Hutchinson, Mark Curran, and Nancy Rodkin Rotering are to be on the ballot for the June 28, 2022 primary.

Does the right hand not know what the left hand is doing. Does the State Board of Elections not even know the laws under which they are to function or do they feel they can lower the standards as they see fit.
