Will Co. (ECWd) –

As published by the Chicago Tribune,

“A former Lincoln-Way Central High School secretary has repaid more than $40,000 she took from the athletic booster club as part of a plea agreement, authorities said.

Melissa McGrath, 54, pleaded guilty to one count of felony theft in exchange for 24 months’ probation through the Second Chance program, said Carole Cheney, spokeswoman for the Will County state’s attorney’s office.”

For those who may not recall, the taxpayers are still waiting on the Federal Government to move forward on the criminal trial of former Lincoln-Way Superintendent Lawrence Willie who is facing 6 felony charges for his malfeasance during his tenure.  We covered it extensively in numerous articles at this link.

It’s interesting to see that the Will County Sheriff’s office handled this investigation while ignoring taxpayers who were seeking a similar investigation into the Superintendent.  After getting nowhere with the County Sheriff, the FBI took the case and the US Attorney indicted Willie on 6 felony charges.

The Will County Sheriff refused to investigate the alleged criminal activity of now-former DuPage Township Supervisor Bill Mayer, as did the Will County State’s Attorney who confirmed the Sheriff would not investigate it.  We find it interesting that there was no mention of turning over the investigation to the State Police. Instead, the State’s Attorney recused himself because of political-related concerns.

All that aside, we are pleased to see the students will be recovering the funds stolen from their efforts.

You hit the nail right on the head. These Government agencies, such as Counties, Sherriff, Municipalities, Schools, Park Districts and Police are too friendly with each other. They go to fundraisers and politically help each other. They are too intertwined under the guise of communicating with and working together on issues etc – to the extent that they will not hold the other agency accountable for crimes such as are mentioned in the article regarding Willie or Mayer.

That is why this White Collar Crime runs rampant at times.
