Shelby County Corrections Officer Christopher Zakowski arrested for DUI

BY KIRK ALLEN & JOHN KRAFT

ON June 25, 2020

Shelby Co. (ECWd) -

Shelby County Corrections Officer Christopher Zakowski was arrested for DUI in Moweaqua, Illinois June 4, 2020, at 11:58 pm.

We submitted a request for the actual police report and the video of the stop, however, those requests have not been fulfilled as of publication.  Those requests went to both the Moweaqua PD and the Shelby County State's Attorney.  We will update the article once that information is provided.

We understand Zakowski is currently on unpaid leave from his position at the Shelby County Sheriff's Office.

A copy of the charging sheet can be downloaded at this link or viewed below.

Christopher Zakowski

This is a poorly veiled attempt to drag someone through the mud.
How despicable to pretend you are honoring a Shelby County officer for “doing the right thing” when it is clear whoever leaked this information and/or wrote this article has a personal vendetta against this man.
Was it right of him to drink and drive?
    No, of course not.
Was it right of him to say what he said about how everyone drinks and drives?
    No.
But how about understanding that anyone who willingly risks their job or exhibits such denial in their behavior is likely dealing with a substantial drinking problem?
It is clear he is on unpaid leave and facing charges.
What else do you hope to accomplish from this article?
Shaming him is not the answer.
Perhaps the author of this article was naive to the fact that the person who willingly handed over this information was attempting to ruin this man’s life.
I hope that was the case.
Otherwise, this is an exceptionally petty example of sensationalism.
We all deserve a little grace. Especially in the times we are living.

It was all provided under the Freedom of Information Act. Whoever gave it to us had no choice butt to follow the law and give us what we requested.
