Dale Colter, former Fireman, arrested, charged with Felony Theft from Fire Department –

Vermilion, IL. (ECWd) –

The Edgar County Sheriff’s Department served a warrant on former Vermilion (Paris Fire Protection District) Fireman Dale Colter, who was arrested at 8:40 a.m. on January 6, 2020, and charged with Felony Theft of between $10k and $100k.

According to Court records, it is charged that Colter:

. . .On or about various dates in 2018 and 2019 within the County of Edgar, State of Illinois, committed the offense of THEFT. In that the said defendant knowingly exerted unauthorized control over property of the Paris Community Fire Protection District, and the Defendant used the property, knowing such use probably would deprive the owner permanently of such use or benefit, in that he utilized the Paris Community Fire Protection District’s Illini F.S. fuel card for personal use in excess of $500.00, not exceeding $10,000.00.

In violation of 720 ILCS 5/16-1 ( a)( 1)(C) Class 2 Felony

His case number is 2019CF260 in Edgar County Circuit Court.

He was released on $1500 Bond (10% of $15,000) on January 7, 2020, with his initial Bond appearance set for January 27, 2020, at 1:30 p.m. in Courtroom 2.

If found guilty, a Class 2 Felony in Illinois is punishable by up to 7 years in state prison and/or fines not to exceed $25,000.
