Update: Vermilion Fire Dept alleged theft –

By John Kraft & Kirk Allen

On December 30, 2019

Edgar County (ECWd) –

A few weeks ago we published an article alleging theft of public funds by a member of the Vermilion, IL (Edgar County) Fire Department, Paris Community Fire Protection District.

We understand the investigation is still ongoing (not completed yet) and is being handled by the Paris Police Department.

Apparently, from the results of a FOIA request, the person accused of the theft is Dale Colter, and he has been terminated from the fire department.

According to sources, there are at least 50 videos of him pumping fuel into private vehicles while using two different Fire Department fuel credit cards to pay for it.

Although he did provide $4300.00 in restitution to the District, that only happened after he was caught, and you cannot un-rob a bank. Below is a copy of the Cashier’s Check provided under FOIA.

I predict that it will all disappear, with the footnote of, “the investigation determined the money had been refunded” or “the investigation determined that the money had been refunded and thus there was no intent to permanently deprive the owner (Fire District) of the cash.” Maybe not.

I don’t think you can just give it back and it all goes away.

The governor got away with it from cheating on his property taxes.

    Restitution of $4300.00?

    That’s a nice round number.

What are the chances that all that gas added up to exactly $4,300?

Not a penny more or a penny less?

All the gallons, does the price vary, and multiply price times gallons at least 50 times and add it all up…

$4,300 exactly? I’m going to put a call in to headquarters and leave a message for Steve that something needs to be checked out. Just as soon as I can find one of those payphones that takes dimes. Next episode- we need to investigate where the payphones all went to!
