Village of Alorton sued for public records –

By John Kraft & Kirk Allen

On November 13, 2019

St. Clair Co, IL. (ECWd) –

After numerous violations of the 5-day response time required under the Freedom of Information Act, and records not provided weeks after the request for records was submitted, we field a 6-Count lawsuit against the Village of Alorton, Illinois, located in St. Clair County, for alleged violations of the Act.

We are seeking records relating to:

  • Compensation setting resolution for elected officials,
  • vehicle use policy,
  • bank statements,
  • meeting agendas,
  • meeting minutes,
  • financial transaction histories,
  • and others

Alorton’s FOIA Officer is Mr. LaMar Gentry.

As usual, it is much simpler and more cost-effective for a public body to comply with public records requests. Now they will spend money on their attorney and will end up paying our attorney bills as well.
