WESLEY TWP (ECWd) –
It came to our attention during last night’s Wesley Township Board of Trustees meeting, that the township trustees gathered together, for the purpose of discussing public business, sometime within the first 2 weeks of June 2019. See video below.
They did this without posting a notice or an agenda, and they apparently took action to close down camping at the Township Park.
This action was not taken in public and was not taken at a proper meeting, and therefore it is our opinion that this action is void and unenforceable.
A Township Board cannot take any action unless it is during a public meeting, with the action item listed on the meeting agenda. That being said, any alleged actions taken cannot be considered legitimate.
The action in this instance was to close the park to camping.
The township supervisor stated during the June 2019 regular meeting that they decided to close camping due to this so-called emergency: “Each of the board members…we had a situation and acted on it…4 board members agreed that we need to stop the camping…”
This information has been forwarded to the AG’s PAC Office for their opinion on this “meeting” and action.
