CHARLESTON, IL. (ECWd) –

Coles County Probation Officer Megan R. Weaver was questioned during a Domestic Violence related Disorderly Conduct police investigation on Friday night, April 26, 2019 at approximately 11:30 p.m. (Police report here)

As of today, May 21, 2019, Weaver is still employed with the Coles County Probation Office as a Probation Officer. This incident is currently being investigated by the Coles County Probation office and they declined to provide any more information other than saying it is currently being investigated.

During the April 26th investigation, Sullivan, Illinois Police Officer Brody Dean Bickel stated that, down the road from the Toy Bar, he heard a female voice yelling “F***ing N**ger” (page 2) and observed a pickup truck pulling away from the bar.

According to the police report received in response to a Freedom of Information Act request, when Officer Bickel was questioning an apparent intoxicated Megan Weaver, she stated that she was going through a divorce and her husband “cheated on her with that n**ger” (page 2). Weaver also told Officer Bickel “she is pretty sure there are sundown rules.” Later, she yelled at her husband: “there are sundown rules for black people.” Weaver continued yelling more racial comments towards Brittany (the woman with Weaver’s soon-to-be ex-husband).

***Apparently “sundown rules” are a reference to communities who warned, or prohibited, certain people (mainly African Americans, but also extended to Chinese Americans, Jewish Americans, etc.) from remaining in those communities after dark. Read this or this website to learn more on sundown rules.

The victim in this encounter, submitted a written statement which includes “While Danelle and Megan (Weaver) were leaning over me, Megan Weaver was calling me a “F**king N**ger” repeatedly. She said it approximately 35 times.” {Weaver} threw rocks at Cody and myself. (pages 12 and 13)

Weaver’s statement did not include any of the profane and racist comments, but the police officer on scene wrote in his police report that she said them while he was there and questioning her.

Another victim’s statement, Cody Weaver, indicated that Megan Weaver repeatedly shouted the “F**king N**ger(pages 14 and 15) words and then hit him in the jaw and busting his lip with her fist, causing it to bleed. Officer Bickel noted in his report that this person’s face was bleeding. Cody filed for and received an Order of Protection against Megan Weaver in Moultrie County Circuit Court, but later asked that it be withdrawn and stricken.

This cannot be tolerated, and it is our opinion, that activities like this diminishes the integrity of Court Services, the profession of Probation Officers, and bring further discredit on Coles County; especially after a former Coles County Sheriff’s Deputy / former Prisoner Review Board member’s termination in 2018 for using racial slurs (read it here).

We ask that Weaver be terminated from her position as Probation Officer, if this is how she talks about people, how can she ever perform her job impartially.

Why you going to get her fired? Clearly going through a divorce and needing help. Besides she ain’t wrong about sundowns. Thought by now that was universal knowledge?

no, she is getting herself fired for those racist comments. The sundown comment appeared to be a threat, and she used her position as a probation officer (by showing the police officer her official ID card) in an attempt at justifying her comments.

Clearly, a person who holds racist views such as these, regardless of what she may be “going through” is incompetent to any occupation paid for by our taxes. Nothing, other than her complete removal and banning from holding future similar positions of any kind, can be tolerated in this situation. Sundown towns were a construct of the Jim Crow era, a shameful blemish on the history of the USA. If any are still documented in city law anywhere in the country, they need to be stricken immediately.

Well, that’s what happens when an idiot or two – alleged adults who have a child in common – go to the bar. They should both be really proud that they were at a bar and in a fight – regardless of who started it. A second strike for father of the year for being out in a bar on his designated weekend visitation…or whatever designated visit it was or was not, instead of being tucked in with his son. Once again, we see good ‘ol grandpa and grandma filling in the spaces. Hormones and alcohol = they never mix well. All of this and not to say that I haven’t made some dumb ass choices in my lifetime. Hopefully, they will both learn from this and mature.
