SULLIVAN, IL. (ECWd) –
The Moultrie County Circuit Clerk, Beth Pruitt has allowed her public office and employees to conduct illegal electioneering activities within the Circuit Clerk’s office, and during working hours.
The Moultrie County Public Defender, Marvin Hansen (also former Moultrie County State’s Atty), used his office as Public Defender, and used public property, funds, and personnel to conduct illegal electioneering activities, and did so during working hours.
Hansen told me over the phone that he did cause the Schedule A reports, on behalf of the Moultrie County Democratic Central Committee, to be faxed from the Circuit Clerk’s office – “because the reports had to be submitted.”
In a follow-up question as to if he personally faxed the document(s), he stated that he asked an employee of the Circuit Clerk’s office to fax them for him. This draws another person into electioneering activity.
This type of activity, of course, violates the Illinois Constitution [Article VIII, Section 1], State Officials and Employees Ethics Act [Section 5-15, Prohibited Political Activities], and the Illinois Election Code [Section 9-25.1, Election Interference].
You can view the evidence on the Illinois State Board of Elections website (HERE), download our copy (HERE) or view below.
We invite Beth Pruitt, Marvin Hansen, and the employee who faxed the electioneering document to resign from their public positions immediately. A St. Clair County employee resigned in August for committing the same electioneering infractions (read about it here).
