KRMA published false/incomplete by-laws on its website –

KANKAKEE, IL. (ECWd) –

Several days ago we reported on compensation paid to members of the Board of Directors of the Kankakee River Metropolitan Agency (“KRMA“) and clearly stated the article was based on the by-laws found on their webpage (here).

I even noted in the opening paragraph that the data used was taken from their website and that there were no amendments to their by-laws posted to their website.

After publishing the previous article, I submitted an FOIA request for any and all by-laws amendments, meeting agendas and minutes where they were approved, and voting records of those voting on the amendments. KRMA’s response was that it would take them until August 22, 2018, to provide the records I requested.

Yesterday, KRMA’s attorneys provided a memorandum to the municipalities making up the KRMA citing a Resolution adopted on May 15, 2007 in which they say amends the by-laws and increases the pay of Directors from the $50 per month to a range between $600 and $700 depending on position held.

If that were true, then the KRMA has published false information to its website, which resulted in my previous article quoting what the public was led to believe to be factual information from that website. How hard is it to publish true and accurate by-laws?

KRMA’s attorneys also mentioned they should probably include the amendment to their website to “avoid further confusion and inaccurate reporting.”

We disagree that there was any inaccurate reporting. Our report was 100% factual and was based entirely on the KRMA’s own published by-laws compared to checks written to Directors. The only inaccuracy was the publication of false information by the KRMA itself.
