Clark-Edgar Rural Water District tables payment to Trustees –

By John Kraft & Kirk Allen

OLIVER, IL. (ECWd) –

During tonight’s Clark-Edgar Rural Water District (“CERWD”) Board of Trustees meeting, I reminded the Board that increasing their compensation during their terms of office was a violation of law and the constitution. I also informed the Board that the preferable action was for the Board to not make those payments to the Trustees, and that I was prepared to litigate the issue if the unauthorized payment was made.

They discussed the issue and decided to seek a written opinion from the water district’s attorney clarifying whether or not the pay increase they voted on last month was a valid vote to take effect this month – which is in the middle of their terms of office.

During the item in which all bills are approved for payment, Trustee Lisa Thomas pulled the Trustee checks from the Motion, and all bills were approved to be paid except for Trustee compensation checks.

Read our previous article on this subject (here).

This is a good thing, depending on what their attorney will put into writing…

Amazing…..they need to learn the laws/rules that govern them – if they cant take the time to learn & follow them maybe they should give back their pay or drop off the board?
