Ives Statement on On-Going Investigation into College of DuPage Spending

WHEATON – In response to yet another set of allegations at the College of DuPage, this time about the embellishment of the college’s enrollment numbers, State Representative Jeanne Ives requested an inquiry by the Illinois Community College Board and subsequently learned that they have already initiated an investigation based on information they also received.

“I applaud the Illinois Community College Board (ICCCB) for reacting quickly to these accusations.  We hope their investigation gets to the bottom of this and if true, clearly points out who is responsible so we can hold them accountable. We expect honest transparent public service.” The ICCCB recently requested payback of $1.7 million from John A. Logan College for a similar miscounting of credit hours.

Earlier this week, it was reported that the DuPage States Attorney has initiated a second investigation centered on the possible illegal spending of taxpayer money at the College of Dupage.  “I applaud our State’s Attorney for taking the lead to get to the bottom of how public money was spent at the College of DuPage and await his determination as to whether any illegal activity occurred.”

The latest allegations validate, once again, the need for the College of Dupage Board of Trustees to approve the independent performance audit by the State Auditor General.  Last week an Illinois House committee passed the performance audit bill onto the House Floor where it is ready for a vote by the whole chamber.  “Approving this audit request is a critical step in investigating malfeasance and bringing proper oversight to the college,” added Ives.
