COD’s Chairman Erin Birt violates open meetings law again –

By John Kraft & Kirk Allen

On September 28, 2014

GLEN ELLYN, IL. (ECWd) –

The September 25, 2014 College of DuPage Board of Trustees meeting was filled with violations of the law, just as we expected it to be.

Board Chairman Erin Birt decided to restrict people in their quest to address the public officials during the meeting. This was accomplished by passing a new public comment policy and then making it apply to the same meeting it was approved at. This new policy included many violations of the Open Meetings Act, in fact, we have never seen one written this bad in all the years we have been looking at this issue. Their attorney must want extra cash to rewrite and fix the same policy he wrote so poorly the first time.

The other parts of a “Request for Review” that I filed with the Illinois Attorney General’s Public Access Counselor (“PAC”) include the violations of public comment session, reserved seating, meeting room too small, camera use area, and the general offensive treatment of the public dished out by Chairman Birt during most of the public comment agenda items.

Birt’s actions were an embarrassment to the college, unbecoming of an attorney, and generally oppressive towards the public in attendance.

You can watch this embarrassment in full color on their webpage here: http://www.cod.edu/multimedia_services/botmedia.aspx

You can read the entire four page complaint filed with the AG below.

The smiling face belies a real she-devil on the inside. How can she live with herself acting as the Nazi-in-Chief

I suggest you might want to investigate the qualifications and background of the chairman and any monetary or other economic interests she or family members may have in regard to her position. Her actions indicate there is more than meets the eye to her “zealous” actions to bar public scrutiny.

    Jim,
You have Eric Birt. It should be Erin Birt in the first line of the second paragraph. It is a very accurate reporting of what happened.
