Shelby Co. (ECWd) –
We first wrote about the Shelby County ethics complaints filed against the Board Chairman in this Article, published in April of 2026.
Fast forward to today, and there has still not been a single Ethics Complaint heard by the Ethics Commission, nor any meeting of the commission.
According to a communication from the Shelby County Treasurer to the Shelby County State’s Attorney, it is being alleged that the State’s Attorney told her she has been unable to get anyone on the Ethics Commission to take the lead so that the five pending ethics complaints can be heard.
Another interesting part of the communication is the question alleged to have been made regarding fairness.
“I was also extremely concerned by a second comment during our September 15 discussion—your question about whether it is “fair” for three people to decide to put someone in jail.”
The Treasurer’s comment sums this matter up nicely.
“The Shelby County Ethics Ordinance cannot serve its intended purpose if its procedures are simply ignored or allowed to remain indefinitely stalled. Accountability must apply to everyone, including those who hold elected office or positions of public trust.”
By all indications, Shelby County has zero accountability to pretty much any laws.
