Broadview, Ill. (ECWd) –
The Illinois Attorney General reviewed a complaint that the Village of Broadview violated the Open Meetings Act (“OMA”) on May 4, 2026, when it required people wishing to speak during public comment to state their home address in order to speak.
In a July 10, 2026, telephone conversation with the Deputy Public Access Counselor, the complainant confirmed that this matter may now be closed as resolved, following the Village Clerk’s affirmation that the Board will no longer require members of the public to state their home address before being allowed to public comment.
The village saw the error of their ways and opted to comply with the law.
We applaud the complainant for insisting the law be followed and the village for changing their policy after confronted with their errors – even though this is part of the mandatory OMA training elected officials must take and should have never been an issue in the first place.
