Posted at 20:30h, 21 AprilRegarding the ISP, here is an issue that all Illinoisans should be lobbying for, although it’s incorrectly stated in the media and far Leftists as “defund the police” (don’t “defund” the actual police, who need body cameras and good training and decent pay, but YES cut wasteful tax dollars being spent on these silly, largely incompetent spy centers called “fusion centers”).
https://theintercept.com/2021/04/21/maine-defund-police-fusion-centers-mass-surveillance/
This is outrageous these fusion centers having no independent oversight or real accountability to prevent abuse. Is the “all hazards” ISP run STIC fusion center doing political spying on the ECWs? Maybe the other fusion center run by the famously corrupt CPD, once home to John Burge? We’ll never know if they are keeping a Stasi or KGB or Gestapo-like “file” on the ECW peaceful political activists. If doing nothing wrong, shouldn’t they be able to FOIA and ask “hey, you spying on our activities? And if so, why?”
How many Trump supporters downstate are now being investigated by fusion centers after the Capitol riot even if they were just outside waving flags and not engaged in any violence or property destruction? You never know what the heck they are up to or who they are monitoring for stupid and patently unconstitutional reasons, but you sure as heck know that you are paying for this with your tax dollars.
It’s a bipartisan issue. Write your Congressperson and Senators and state senators and demand a reform to this outrage.
What gets my goat is how they spy on innocent people but stall on transparency requests! They have to be sued into complying with FOIA. That is the utmost hypocrisy. Grrrr.
Go Watchdogs. Hope they don’t keep a file on you guys, but I bet they do! After all, the DHS needs to invent reasons to keep demanding our tax dollars prop up these hubs of waste, fraud and abuse. They probably open files just to then go out to the media and say “we have 9,000,000 people under surveillance…”
And it ends up being over nothing criminal. But you pay their fat salaries anyways.

Posted at 23:38h, 20 AprilWait, the Illinois State Police operate shadowy and unconstitutional-if-it-weren’t-for-the-PATRIOT-Act “fusion” centers that poke into every nook and cranny of anyone’s life who they choose to investigate, even without a sufficient level of probable cause that any criminal activity is going on, but they won’t comply with a lawful Freedom of Information Act request?

Hypocrites!
The Illinois Legislature really needs to put some actual teeth into FOIA and legislate monetary penalties for non-compliant agencies.
Except then the taxpayers would just be paying even more money to fund a recalcitrant agency, I suppose.
