Avon Township, IL. (ECWd) –
Avon Township Supervisor, Terry Wilke, continued operating “Avon Cares” – a non profit food pantry when its registration had expired with the Illinois Secretary of State.
He continued receiving public funds of the township and donations during the time-frame in which the pantry was not in good standing with the Secretary of State.
After we notified some people in the township, the food pantry finally registered again, effective August 31, 2020.
We will continue reporting on Avon Township in the coming weeks.

Posted at 12:51h, 03 SeptemberWhy is a township giving funds to a food pantry especially if those funds are GA funds because my understanding is GA funds can only be used for those who qualify for GA so how are they managing the qualification part? I understand GA funds can be used for a food pantry but I believe the statue says it has to be run by the township and can only be for those that qualify for GA

Posted at 12:10h, 03 Septembera. I’m surprised he was receiving public funds, unless there was some sort of grants groups applied for with the township.
b. I would think this Avon Cares might lose their 501c3 status if not careful.
c. If this person (Township supervisor) has control over who gets public funding that also seems to be a problem.
d. Our town used to give money to various non-profits (I can’t remember the requirements, groups like scouts, etc. then money got tight & the stopped. It wasn’t a huge sum to various “doing good works organizations”. But it stopped many yrs (maybe 10) back.
