GEORGETOWN, IL. (ECWd) –
Two former City of Georgetown employees filed suit in Federal Court in Urbana against the City, the trustees and the mayor claiming wrongful termination, employment discrimination, civil rights violations.
The Mayor apparently fired the two employees and then turned around and hired her own daughter as the replacement – and was even the deciding vote of a split city council. As if that wasn’t enough, the employees were not given an opportunity to contest any of the reasons they were dismissed and were later subjected to defamatory remarks as to why they were terminated.

Posted at 07:52h, 05 MayThis was very interesting reading. From my experience employees are consueled what they did wrong then have a chance to remedy any problems. It is pretty easy to see what went on here. They were part of the old administration (usually these jobs aren’t politically motivated – though I have seen where when the Mayor changes several of the upper level administrators decide to move on.)
This looks like a clear case of abuse of power and is very unfortunate. Many cities have rules about nepotism so you can’t hire a relative.
This will be interesting to see how it unfolds.
