Oops – 911 Board Chairman Ousted Himself !

By John Kraft & Kirk Allen

On January 12, 2012

A tactical move to undo an illegal action at the December 5, 2011 Edgar County 911 Board meeting backfired at the next 911 Board meeting when elected Chairman, Dee Burgin, inadvertently voided his chairmanship.  The intent was to void the secret ballot action to elect the vice-chairman.  As we explained in Watchdog’s December 7 article about the 911 Board meeting, “blind” or secret ballots are illegal.

Item #6 on the January 10 agenda, as read by Chair Burgin was “I entertain a motion to void the election of the Chairman at the December 5 meeting”.  Board Secretary, Cindy Belt, restated the motion before taking the vote, and none of the other six 911 board members caught the mistake, either!  They all voted in favor of the motion. The intent was to void the election of the 911 Vice-Chairman in order to cast votes the correct way.

So, who ran the rest of the meeting?  Ousted Chairman Dee Burgin, of course!
