JOINT STATUS REPORT
The United States of America, by Andrew S. Boutros, United States Attorney
for the Northern District of Illinois, respectfully submits the following joint status
report pursuant to the Court’s order on March 9, 2026 (Dkt. 65):
- On April 14, 2025, defendant Lewis A. Lacey was charged by superseding indictment with bankruptcy fraud and making false statements in bankruptcy filings and bankruptcy proceedings. Dkt. 1. Defendant entered a plea of not guilty to those charges at his arraignment, which took place on April 30, 2025. Dkt. 18.
- On November 11, 2025, defendant pled guilty to Count One of the superseding indictment. Dkt. 61. As part of his plea agreement, defendant agreed to cooperate with the government in an ongoing investigation. Dkt. 61.
- Defendant continues to cooperate with the government and its investigation. The government anticipates defendant’s cooperation will continue for at least the next six months.
- As a result, the governments ask this Court to submit a status report in another six months.
- The undersigned conferred with defense counsel about this joint status report, and defense counsel agreed with the information contained in this report.
- The government moves to exclude time between today and the next status report in this case pursuant to the Speedy Trial Act, 18 U.S.C. § 3161, and in the interests of justice so that defense counsel can continue to review discovery and to facilitate further plea discussions between the parties. The defendant does not object to the exclusion of time until the next court date in this case.
A new written status report is due by 3/10/2027.
