Clark Co. (ECWd) –
We exposed over two hundred thousand dollars’ worth of checks signed by the former Dolson Township Supervisor and his wife in this article.
The Illinois State Police have responded to our Freedom of Information Act request, and no one should be surprised by the response.
“ISP is extending the response due date for an additional five business days for the following reasons:
X The requested records have not yet been located and additional time is needed to complete the search.
X The requested records require examination and evaluation to determine if the documents are exempt from disclosure and/or must be redacted.
X The requested records cannot be provided within the prescribed time frame without causing an undue burden or interfering with the operation of ISP.”
After the extension of time, a second response was provided.
“ISP is unable to provide any records in the statutorily allotted timeframe without disproportionately burdening our operations. Continuing to search for, compile, and redact records in response to this request would be unduly burdensome, pursuant to Section 3(g) of FOIA. Accordingly, ISP is extending you the opportunity to narrow the scope and reduce your request to manageable proportions.”
To keep this in perspective, I only asked for three things.
1. A copy of all complaints and requests for investigation pertaining to Dolson Township in Clark County, Illinois, since January 1, 2025.
2. A copy of all investigation records pertaining to any investigation into Dolson Township since January 1, 2025.
3. A copy of all subpoenas issued pertaining to an investigation into Dolson Township since January 1, 2025.
Considering the Township has already confirmed they have not received any subpoenas, my request was for two simple sets of records: complaints that request an investigation and all investigation records. These are items we routinely got in the past, but now, ISP is disproportionately burdened to provide them.
We narrowed our request by only asking for records beginning May 1, 2025, rather than January. We will update when the ISP responds to the narrowed request.
As an update directly on Dolson, we have been advised by the Township Attorney that she resigned.
