Murdock Township Investigation In Progress

By Kirk Allen & John Kraft

On August 24, 2025

Dougals Co. (ECWd) –

We provided information to the Douglas County State’s Attorney, Robert Kosic, regarding the Murdock Township Road District Highway Commissioner not residing in the district for which he was elected.  The details of that matter were exposed in this article.

Our request was that a formal law enforcement investigation be conducted on the matter.

I followed up with the State’s Attorney a few days ago, and I’m pleased with the response.

“This matter was submitted to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and is presently under investigation. The investigation is ongoing and is not yet complete. When the Sheriff’s Office does complete their investigation, my office will receive that report and will evaluate what the appropriate next steps will be given the findings from that investigation.”

We would hope the findings from the investigation are exactly what we exposed, the highway commissioner is claiming owner occupied tax exemption on his residence in Coles County, where he did in fact confirm to me is where he resides, and that his voter registration paperwork contains a bogus address as there is no parcel affiliated with 103 W. Main Street in Murdock, Illinois.

The law is clear, and all indications are that the office of Murdock Township Highway Commissioner became vacant upon William Deckard changing his residency to Coles County.

We will provide an update on this matter once the Sheriff’s criminal investigation is completed and provide a copy of their report.
