Local Election Updates –

By Kirk Allen & John Kraft

Illinois (ECWd) –

There are a few election results we need to share in light of past articles exposing certain information in those communities.

Village of Rochester

Mayor Joe Suerdieck was running for reelection even after all the malfeasance with his fingerprints all over it, as outlined in the numerous articles at this link.  Suerdieck took a shellacking in the April 1, 2025, election and managed to receive a whopping 19.4% of the vote.  Maybe the voters didn’t appreciate his using their tax dollars by doing business with his own hardware store, or the court settlement due to his actions costing the taxpayers no less than $170,000.00 and probably closer to $200K after attorney fees. Either way, he is out, and it appears the Village of Rochester is on a path toward better things.

Rochester Fire Protection District

Efforts to silence Trustee Marty Fairchild, who is trying to stop tax increases and speaks out against the lack of transparency, have once again failed as Fairchild won re-election with the highest vote count of the three candidates.   Current board president, Gary McBride (AKA Head Butter), was the second elected member.  McBride has been instrumental in blocking Fairchild and others from communicating with the district’s attorney and is more focused on protecting the status quo than working to reduce any burden on the taxpayers. Sadly, he is there for a six-year term. Numerous articles should be self-explanatory as to why McBride should simply resign and find a new hobby.

Village of Yale

The Village of Yale will have new people in every elected seat in the village. Filling every seat is not normal; however, since past elections and appointments failed to follow the proper process, a fresh start was established.  We only wrote 2 articles on Yale, however, it appears the current officials chose not to run again. With an entirely new group of elected officials, the learning curve is going to be steep, but we suspect they will be fine, provided the focus stays on the community.

Also included are our previous articles on the elections in Dolton, Thornton Township, and Poplar Grove.
