Rantoul, Ill. (ECWd) –
The Village of Rantoul Electoral Board held a petition objection hearing on January 13, 2025, to hear objections to the petitions filed for a referendum to eliminate electing village trustees by district.
In our previous article on this years’ referendum, as with the referendum attempt from 2 years ago, we suggested the referendum was premature according to the Illinois Municipal Code.
This Electoral Board heard arguments from the objectors, then heard nothing but personal attacks against the objectors from the referendum proponent, Village Trustee Terry Workman, who said he was embarrassed for only getting 88 votes at the last election and even tried blaming us for the legal expenses of his last failed referendum.
The board sustained this objection, and the referendum will not be placed on the ballot.
