Shelby Co. (ECWd) –
The Illinois Comptroller notified Shelby County of the following:
“This notice is to inform you that the fiscal year 2023 Annual Financial Report (AFR) for your unit of local government is currently delinquent.”
“Local governments that do not submit the AFR by the deadline of October 31, 2024, will be omitted from the report card, and as a result listed as delinquent in the publication.”
The email communication was sent to the Clerk, who then sent it to the entire board today, can be downloaded at this link or viewed below.
Without a completed audit for 2023, it appears the county will be placed on the delinquent list for publication. When government agencies are overdue with the required filings there are some pretty stiff financial penalties the Illinois Comptroller can issue.
“The State Comptroller may grant extensions for delinquent audits or reports. The Comptroller may charge a governmental unit a fee for a delinquent audit or report of $5 per day for the first 15 days past due, $10 per day for 16 through 30 days past due, $15 per day for 31 through 45 days past due, and $20 per day for the 46th day and every day thereafter. These amounts may be reduced at the Comptroller’s discretion. All fees collected under this subsection (c) shall be deposited into the Comptroller’s Administrative Fund.” (See section 4(c) of the law)

Posted at 10:44h, 18 OctoberTime to FOIA all delinquent audit fees collected for the past three years. And a list of all taxing districts that have not filed annual audits during that past three years.

Posted at 11:05h, 18 OctoberWe already published the list of delinquent public bodies. Knowing any fees charged would be a good one!
