In 2020 We Reported On An Abusive Prosecutor; He was Just Sentenced To Jail –

Coles Co., Ill. (ECWd) –

We received a tip in mid 2020 complaining of Coles County Assistant State’s Attorney Brady Allen’s conduct towards young women being prosecuted and some already prosecuted by the office he was an assistant prosecutor for.

We verified the authenticity of certain facts, which were contained within a legal filing alleging prosecutorial misconduct in sworn affidavits and exhibits including text messages of a sexual nature.

Within days of our first publication on Brady Allen, both Brady Allen and the Coles County State’s Attorney responded in writing to our request for comment. Brady Allen denied the allegations and gave excuses, and the State’s Attorney indicated Brady Allen was no longer employed by his office.

Also in 2020, we published an article with video detailing an interview conducted by the Mattoon Police Department referencing the allegations against Brady Allen; the interview indicated alleged witness tampering, attempted bribery, and official misconduct.

After publishing our third article, Brady Allen had a law firm send us a letter asking us to remove the article(s) written, claiming the information contained within the articles were taken out of context or were wholly incorrect, without providing any information about what was taken out of context nor what was wholly incorrect. We ignored their letter on the advice of our attorney.

In October of 2022, a federal lawsuit was filed naming Brady Allen and others in a case referencing the Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments and the Illinois Civil Rights Act. Within this federal complaint are allegations of:

• Brady Allen repeatedly contacted Plaintiff asking for sexual favors in exchange for a favorable outcome of the underlying proceeding
• Brady Allen continually harassed and intimidated known witnesses
• Due process rights violations among other things

It was shortly after the federal suit was filed alleging civil rights violations that Brady Allen was indicted in Coles County and charged in January 2023 with 32 felony counts. After the indictment, the federal case was Stayed until after the state criminal case was completed.

In February of 2023, Brady Allen attended a court hearing where, among others, the Court ordered his mugshot impounded.

In November 2023, after we filed a Motion to intervene and unseal the mugshot, the Court, with the approval of both parties, unsealed the mugshot and denied our Motion as moot since the mugshot was no longer sealed.

Brady Allen entered a plea deal in December 2023. He pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor charges and was sentenced to 120 days in the Coles County Jail and a $5000 fine plus costs. He also forfeited his law license.

On December 22, 2023, the Federal Order and Motion to Stay were withdrawn and Denied as Moot. The federal case will now move forward in the Central District of Illinois.

With good behavior in jail, this criminal will only see 60 days behind bars.
