Shelby County – New County Highway Engineer Identified – Another Example of Leadership Trumping Misinformation

By Kirk Allen & John Kraft

On July 5, 2023

Shelby Co. -(ECWd) –

Shelby County has issued a tentative start date for a new County Engineer.  Couple this announcement with multiple recent applications submitted for open positions along with a new executive assistant recently hired, it appears the misinformation being pushed on a select few social media accounts is once again proven wrong.  The false narrative has been that nobody is going to want to work for county government because of a perceived toxic work environment. While not a single person has been able to actually document the source of the alleged toxicity, it is clear leadership has trumped misinformation once again.

The Chairman of the Road and Bridge Committee, Matt Kessler, as well as the others on the committee, have worked diligently from day one to address numerous issues from payroll timecard correctness to navigating the search for a county engineer. Those efforts appear to have paid off with a recent special report issued by Kessler.

“In July, the Full County Board will be asked to approve an IDOT resolution to send Mr. Tappendorf to IDOT for a County Engineer Exam. In August, and after the IDOT exam result is affirmed, then the Full Board would have an opportunity to vote to officially employ Mr. Tappendorf as County Engineer and approve his employment agreement with the County with a start date of 9.1.2023.”

A copy of the full report can be downloaded at this link or viewed below.

We once again tip our hat to the officials in Shelby County who are actually fixing things for the good of the taxpayers.

Good for them. That is wonderful. Too many people don’t listen (or hear) very well these days. then they run with wrong information filtered through a brain that didn’t listen and then seek to give others information that they THOUGHT the other person said….finding the truth is a struggle these days, impeded by people who don’t pay attention to words and who don’t process well.

Appears the current board is more about getting things done than worrying about false information on social media. It is priceless that prior board members, who chose to do nothing, frequently comment on or add to the false narrative. The current Shelby county board deserves a hand clap.
