Paris, Ill. (ECWd) –
According to the Illinois State Board of Education, routine audits have indicated that Paris School District 95 has until June 30, 2023, to address each finding in its final report and pay back the questioned costs and unallowed expenses.
We will publish the final report with more information in a later article.
The reported findings are from Fiscal Years 2020, 2021, and 2022, and include:
- FY2021 Questioned Costs – $600,577
- FY2022 Questioned Costs – $1,589,611
- Food Service Account Unallowed Expenditures and Salaries Total – $1,653,609.11
The total of questioned and unallowed expenditures is approximately $3.24 million.
We will provide the detailed reports in later articles.
Statement from the ISBE in response to our request for information:
“ISBE conducted a routine audit of the Paris Union school district. Several findings and questioned costs prompted ISBE to conduct further monitoring that identified approximately $3.24 million in questioned costs, unallowable expenditures, and unallowable salaries. The district is required to provide a corrective action plan no later than June 30 addressing each finding in the final report and to repay the questioned costs and unallowable expenses.
ISBE’s monitoring included federal grants, thus federal law enforcement authorities are aware of the questioned costs and requested the final report.
Please see attached for the preliminary reports (one for nutrition grants and one for other monitored grants) and the final report.
Thank you,
Jackie

Posted at 14:22h, 16 JuneHaving been a government employee….trust me..there is virtually no accountability for expenditure of funds. It is a slippery slope and you find yourself easily patterning your behavior as your colleagues. The mentality is that the taxpayer is an endless pot of money and can be tapped whenever needed. Thank heavens I walked away when I started to feel like a thief not producing enough to justify my salary.

Posted at 09:36h, 16 JuneCompliments to the Watchdogs. When I see the itemization of expenditures, my definition of these expenditures is grand theft. Taxpayers in District 95 should be outraged. And who is going to hold the thieves accountable: ISBE, States Attorney, Illinois Attorney General? Well, since this is Illinois, maybe nothing happens. Maybe it’s time for local taxpayers to file a lawsuit seeking a remedy.. The District 95 officials approving these expenditures most certainly have lots of questions to answer.. This is not the time to pussyfoot around the wrongdoing.
