Poplar Grove, IL. (ECWd) –
The Village of Poplar Grove’s Electoral Board is set to hold a meeting to consider several election petition objections on Monday, January 16, 2023.
Monday is a state and federal holiday celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
The Open Meetings Act prohibits special meetings from being held on holidays.
Section 2.01 of OMA (5 ILCS 120/2.01 (West 2020), provides, in pertinent part: All meetings required by this Act to be public shall be held at specified times and places which are convenient and open to the public. No meeting required by this Act to be public shall be held on a legal holiday unless the regular meeting day falls on that holiday.
We have published the recent AG Determinations stating Kansas Township held an improper meeting on Columbus Day, and the Orland Park Public Library District held an improper meeting on Abraham Lincoln’s Birthday, both being state or federal holidays.
The Poplar Grove Electoral Board has not published an annual meeting notice; therefore, each meeting of the electoral board is considered a “special meeting” and cannot occur on a holiday.
Each and every action taken at the January 16, 2023, special meeting of the Poplar Grove Electoral Board can be overturned, declared void, or otherwise disposed of.

Posted at 10:13h, 16 JanuaryI saw a 9-1-1 board meeting scheduled for tonight also, and I wondered about that, but it would be a regularly scheduled meeting.
