Kansas, IL. (ECWd) –
We previously wrote about the Kansas Township Supervisor’s admission to the Attorney Gerneral’s Public Access Counselor that the township did hold a special meeting on Columbus Day, a holiday, in violation of the Open Meetings Act.
The AG-PAC took less than a month to issue a determination letter indicating Kansas Township held a special meeting on a holiday in violation of Section 2.01 of the Act. The Supervisor’s honesty about the meeting helped speed the determination process up.
This meeting, and request for review process, resulted in a lower tax levy for township residents since the violative meeting in question was a Truth in Taxation Hearing. To remedy the violation, the township board held a new special meeting to approve a lower levy, not subject to a truth in taxation hearing.

Posted at 15:00h, 06 JanuaryBut it’s so difficult to understand that its wrong hold a special meeting on Columbus Day, a holiday, in violation of the Open Meetings Act. Good grief, many of the elected officials are like teenagers, they know the rules but rationalize what they would rather do
