Shelby County EMA Director Troy Agney Resigns – Criminal Investigation Awaiting Charging Decision

Shelby Co. (ECWd) –

The Shelby County Emergency Management Director Troy Agney resigned last month, however, we do not know if it was because of the recent wage garnishment judgment issued against him or the criminal investigation completion that was forwarded to the State’s Attorney for a charging decision.

Last summer a complaint was lodged regarding the theft of property owned by the Stewardson Fire Protection District where Agney was a past Fire Chief. We requested the investigation records related to Troy Agney and the Stewardson FPD back in August and it was denied due to the investigation being ongoing.  It is our understanding that there is substantial property theft as well as reimbursement expenses that were questionable. UPDATE- The original complaint was in 2019

Our inquiry with the Shelby County Sheriff last week confirmed the investigation is complete and the matter is in the hands of the Shelby County State’s Attorney.

“We have submitted it to the States Attorney’s office for review. We have not heard back on the decision or any follow-ups they might want.”

Considering Agney is no longer a county employee there should be no conflict of interest for her to prosecute if she determines the evidence provided by the Sheriff’s investigation is sufficient to warrant charges.

An updated FOIA request was sent and we will update accordingly if records are withheld or provided.
