Shelby Co. (ECWd)
The Shelby County Board held its regular meeting Thursday of last week. We apologize for the delay in posting as our live stream failed to upload and the video had to be uploaded manually.
There were several votes taken which were declared to have failed, however, that is not the case based on the Counties Code. It was believed that it required a majority of the board to pass anything, however, the law reads that it requires the majority of the board members present, except in certain situations as provided by the law, such as budget amendments.
(55 ILCS 5/2-1005) (from Ch. 34, par. 2-1005)
Sec. 2-1005. Quorum; approval of ordinances. A majority of the members of any county board shall constitute a quorum for the transaction of business; and all questions, ordinances, resolutions, or motions which shall arise at meetings shall be determined by the votes of the majority of the members present, except in such cases as is otherwise provided.
After this point was brought to the attention of the interim chairman after the meeting, he advised the clerk as several matters actually passed and will need to be recorded as such in the minutes.
