Harrisburg Township Assessor Charged With Felony Pecuniary Interest In Contracts –

Saline County, IL. (ECWd) –

Today, the State’s Attorney of Saline County charged the Harrisburg Township Assessor, April Elaine Clayton, with maintaining an unlawful pecuniary interest in work and services performed for Harrisburg Township.

April Clayton is the wife of the Harrisburg Township Supervisor, Dan Clayton.

The Information in Saline County Case # 2022-CF-378 alleges that April Clayton, while simultaneously holding the elected position of Township Assessor, performed work in, and received compensation for, other Township positions, including secretary to the Harrisburg Township Supervisor, Treasurer/Bookkeeper, and General Assistance Office Coordinator/Bookkeeper for Harrisburg Township, in violation of [the Township Code] 60 ILCS 1/85-45(a) and 60 ILCS 1/85-45(e).

From the statute: “Any officer who violates this Section is guilty of a Class 4 felony. Any office held by the person so convicted shall become vacant and shall be declared vacant as part of the judgment of the court.”
